An endoscopy is a procedure which involves inserting an endoscope (a thin, long, flexible tube) into the body through a natural opening, such as your throat or rectum to allow internal examination of the gastrointestinal tract.
Endoscopy is used mainly as a diagnostic tool, though there are some specially adapted endoscopes that can be used to treat certain conditions, such as gallstones.
3fivetwo offer the following private endoscopy services:
- Oesophageal-gastric-duodenal Endoscopy
- Colonoscopy
- Sigmoidoscopy
- Virtual Colonoscopy using low dose Computed Tomography (CT)
- ERCP
Gastroscopy
An upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy, usually known simply as gastroscopy, can be used to both diagnose and treat problems affecting your upper GI tract. This includes your oesophagus (gullet), stomach and duodenum (the first section of your small intestine). It is used to diagnose:
- Peptic ulcers
- Non-ulcer dyspepsia (indigestion that's not caused by an ulcer)
- Damage caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD)
- Cancer of the stomach or oesophagus.
Colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy
Colonoscopy allows your physicain or surgeon to look directly at the lining of the large intestine (the colon) by passing the endoscope through the anus into the intestine . A biopsy may be performed.
It is recommended for alterations in bowel habit, occult or frank blood in the stool, unexplained anaemia and as a screening tool for colon cancer.
ERCP(Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-pancreatography)
ERCP combines the use of endoscopy and x-rays. It is used mainly to diagnose and treat conditions that affect the bile ducts and nearby structures. For example, gallstones, strictures (narrowings), leaks, and certain cancers.
